St Francis Xavier(1506 – 1552) was a pioneering Roman Catholic missionary and also the Disciple of St Ignatious de loyola.

His incorrupt body or his sacred relics is kept atop a marble mausoleum in the silver casket in BASILICA OF BOM JESUS at oldGoa

St Francis Xavier Has visited almost all parts of Asia, As such he came to Known as “travelling Priest” .
Everywhere he spent his days by Nursing the sick and teaching about Christianity till he died,
St Francis Xavier has many miraculous power he has cured the Deaf, dumb and sick peoples and also he has raised a boy from the dead.

St Francis Xavier died at sea en route to China On 3rd december 1552 at the age of 46,he was buried on a beach at Shangchuan Island,China and later in march 1553 his body was taken and was temporarily buried in St. Paul’s church in Malacca,
On December 1553 St Francis Xavier was shipped to Goa miraculously his body was undecayed and Fresh as died on the previous day.

On 1637 St Francis Xavier body was placed in silver casket.
The public viewing of the body of St. Francis Xavier is held every ten years with the body being laid in a casket,
the last public veiwing was held on 3rd december 2004.

In the Exhibtion of the corpse of st francis Xavier in 1554 the little toe on the right foot was bitten off by a Portuguese lady named Dona Isabel de Carom  “as she was anxious to have a relic of the Saint.” It gushed blood, as if from a living body.
later three other toes was removed as relics from his right foot one which is placed in the birth place of Ft Francis xavier(Native castle).

There are large number of st Francis Xavier relics spread all over the world
some famous relics are  :
-Holy Spirit Church in margao has the relic of St Francis Xavier which is a large bone,
-Church of Gesú in Rome has the relic of saint francis xavier right arm,
-A bone from the arm is preserved as a relic in a cathedral in japan.
